Open Biofuel Engine Development
The OBED project has been established to provide an open web based resource for information related to biofuel engines. The project will be operated following a collaborative open development model.
The muddle or lack of quality, robust information around these technologies acts as a barrier to the successful adoption of biofuels where they may offer a sustainable energy solution.
With the growing interest in biofuels there have been numerous research projects related to the operation of biofuels in internal combustion engines. Techniques and technologies have been developed to provide satisfactory performance in a large range of operating conditions and engines from those with simple mechanical fuel systems to engines equipped with the latest computer control.
Increasingly many practical solutions are now being used. In some parts of the world engines are being produced or modified to be biofuel compatible. Information about available technologies and methods is often not readily available. It is hoped that OBED will become a centralised resource where this information is easily accessible. Both a development tool and a technical manual.
In response to increasingly stringent emissions legislation the development and adoption of new technologies for conventionally fuelled engines is ongoing. In order to aid biofuel engine development OBED will examine engine technologies to gain an understanding of biofuel compatibility.

- Research database - Database of research papers and projects related to the use of biofuels. It is intended that included items will be tagged with key terms and have a smart tag led search facility as well as each link having an associated area for comments and discussion.
